Introduction

If you’re looking for a family-friendly camping spot near Brisbane that offers much more than just a place to pitch a tent, BIG4 Sandstone Point Holiday Resort is definitely worth considering.

Located in Sandstone Point, about an hour’s drive north of Brisbane, the resort offers a combination of traditional camping and resort-style facilities. With powered camping sites, heated pools, a water park, kids’ activities, and easy access to Bribie Island, there is plenty to keep the whole family entertained.

We’ve stayed here as a family, and in this post I’ll share what I liked about the resort, what campers should know before booking, and why I think it’s a great option for a short family getaway.

1. Great Location Near Brisbane and Bribie Island

One of the biggest advantages of BIG4 Sandstone Point Holiday Resort is its location.

It’s an easy drive from Brisbane, which makes it a convenient option when you don’t want to spend half the day travelling with young children.

Another big advantage is its proximity to Bribie Island.

The bridge to Bribie Island is only a short drive away, so you can easily leave the resort for a change of scenery. You can visit the beaches, stop at local cafes, pick up groceries, or simply explore the island for a few hours before returning to the resort.

This combination of an easy drive from Brisbane and access to Bribie Island makes Sandstone Point particularly convenient for a weekend camping trip.

2. Amazing Pool Area and Swim-Up Bar

The pool area is one of the biggest attractions of the resort.

There are heated pools with plenty of seating and shaded areas, making it easy for parents to relax while the kids spend hours in the water.

One of the standout features is the swim-up bar.

Adults can order drinks without having to leave the pool area, while the kids have plenty of space to swim and play nearby. The resort also has a poolside restaurant and café, making it possible to spend a large part of the day around the pool without having to cook every meal yourself.

For families, the water facilities are a major reason to consider staying here.

The resort also has a water park with slides and a large tipping bucket, along with a kids’ shallow pool.

3. Plenty of Activities for Kids

The biggest surprise for me was how many activities are available outside the pool area.

The resort has a:

  • Jumping pillow
  • Pump track
  • Arcade room
  • Playground
  • Water park
  • Tennis court
  • Basketball court
  • Mini golf
  • Games and outdoor activities

This is especially useful when travelling with children because they don’t have to spend the entire weekend sitting around the campsite.

During school holidays and selected periods, the resort also runs additional activities such as games, crafts, outdoor activities, and movie nights. The exact schedule can change depending on the season and availability.

For parents, this can make a big difference.

The kids have plenty to do, while the adults can occasionally sit down and enjoy a coffee or a drink.

4. Camping Sites, Facilities and Campfire Rules

If you’re actually planning to camp rather than stay in a villa or safari tent, the resort has powered and small powered sites available.

The powered sites are reasonably spacious and are designed to accommodate a range of camping setups. The resort recommends a 15-amp power lead, and some sites may require a longer lead depending on the location of the power connection.

The amenities are also clean and well maintained, with toilets, showers, camp kitchens and laundry facilities available.

Important: Campfire Rules

This is something campers should know before arriving.

Open fires are not permitted on individual campsites.

Instead, the resort operates a communal fire pit near the Sunset Deck during the cooler months. This can be a great place to warm up, socialise, and roast marshmallows with the kids.

The communal fire pit is seasonal, so it’s worth checking the current schedule before your stay. The resort currently advertises winter fire pit sessions on selected Friday and Saturday nights.

So if having your own campfire at your campsite is important to you, this is something to keep in mind when choosing a campground.

5. A Resort Feel Without Giving Up the Camping Experience

What makes Sandstone Point different from a traditional campground is the overall resort atmosphere.

You can still arrive with your tent, caravan, or camping setup and enjoy the outdoor experience, but at the same time you have access to facilities that you normally wouldn’t expect from a basic campground.

There are also villas and safari tents available if you’re travelling with family members who aren’t quite ready for traditional camping.

This makes the resort suitable for mixed groups where some people want to camp while others prefer more comfortable accommodation.

6. A Great Option for a Short Family Getaway

For our family, one of the biggest advantages is that we don’t need to plan a huge itinerary.

You can arrive, set up camp, and spend most of the weekend enjoying the facilities inside the resort.

Then, if you feel like getting out, Bribie Island is close enough for an easy day trip.

That makes BIG4 Sandstone Point particularly appealing for families who want a simple weekend away without spending hours driving to a remote campground.

Final Thoughts

BIG4 Sandstone Point Holiday Resort is not the type of campground you visit purely for a quiet escape into nature.

Instead, it’s a great choice if you’re looking for a family camping holiday with resort-style facilities.

The combination of heated pools, a swim-up bar, water park, kids’ activities, powered camping sites, and proximity to Bribie Island gives families plenty of options during a short stay.

For families living in Brisbane or South East Queensland, I think it’s definitely worth putting on your camping list.

Just remember to check the current activity schedule and campfire rules before you go, as some facilities and activities are seasonal.
